Bangor, ME -- The Maine Sting announced today that Bill Ashby has been awarded the position of head coach in 2008.  Ashby will provide the organization an experienced leadership to the newest addition to the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Northeast Division.

Ashby has extensive coaching experience at all levels. He serves as the Athletic Director and men’s soccer coach at the University of Maine Fort Kent.  In his first two years guiding UMFK, Ashby has led the Bengals to a combined record of 34-4-0, two Sunrise Conference championships and to the sweet sixteen at this year’s NAIA National Tournament.  Coach Ashby holds the Premier License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as well as the National Youth License from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

Ashby on his appointment, “I am very excited to be involved with continuing to grow the sport of soccer in Maine.  I will make every effort to work with the front office in putting together a team that will represent the state positively both on and off the field.  The Maine Sting will reflect the hard working mentality of all Maine people”.

The Sting begin their first season on May 27th when they host the AC Diablos.
